The Pennsylvania State University, also known as Penn State, has been awarded a $482,777 Project Grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Biomedical Research and Research Training program (CFDA 93.859). The objective of this 4-year grant, effective September 1, 2024, is to study an innovative method for aptamer selection and truncation, and to examine the efficiency of in vivo aptamer delivery in regulating inflammation. The research activities will focus on developing a technological platform for therapeutic aptamer discovery and new approaches to fighting inflammatory cytokines in the treatment of complex immune disorders. Key deliverables include the selection and truncation of high-quality aptamers, as well as the evaluation of microneedle-mediated aptamer delivery for local, defined treatment of inflammation using an animal model. The success of this project is expected to pave the way for novel therapeutic aptamer applications in areas such as regenerative medicine, cancer therapy, molecular biosensing, and anti-inflammation.
