The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, doing business as Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania, received a $371,719 Project Grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393) to conduct research focused on characterizing epigenetic targets in prostate cancer. The 5-year grant, awarded on March 1, 2025, aims to gain deeper mechanistic insights into how the histone methyltransferase NSD2 influences the chromatin landscape to facilitate the assembly of the androgen receptor (AR) enhanceosome complex and enhance AR-driven transcriptional programs in prostate cancer. The research also evaluates the therapeutic potential of a novel small molecule inhibitor of NSD2 and its paralog NSD1 in AR-driven prostate cancer models. This work is expected to provide critical new understanding of how epigenetic modifiers regulate oncogenic transcription factors to drive prostate cancer progression.
