This Project Grant award of $2,746,080, provided by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393), supports research on the effects of remotely-delivered cognitive behavioral stress management (R-CBSM) on cancer-accelerated aging in older, distressed breast cancer survivors. The project will enroll 192 breast cancer survivors within 3-12 months of completing initial treatment, some of whom received chemotherapy. Participants will undergo baseline assessments including salivary cortisol, heart rate variability, and other measures. They will then be randomized to receive either the R-CBSM intervention plus survivorship care planning, or survivorship care planning only. The R-CBSM intervention involves 10 weekly online group sessions to provide stress management skills. Intervention processes will be monitored through ecological momentary assessments. The study aims to evaluate the effects of the R-CBSM intervention on physiological and psychological markers of accelerated aging in this population of older breast cancer survivors.
