The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a $716,911 Project Grant (CFDA 93.395 - Cancer Treatment Research) to Northwestern University to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluating the efficacy of the MOSAIC digital health intervention. MOSAIC delivers peer support narratives and psychoeducation to English- and Spanish-speaking hematopoietic stem cell transplant (SCT) recipients. The goal is to assess whether MOSAIC can reduce psychological distress and improve other patient-reported and clinical outcomes in this patient population. The project will randomize 356 SCT patients to receive either MOSAIC or an enhanced usual care control condition prior to their SCT procedure. Assessments will be conducted at baseline and up to 8 months post-SCT. Northwestern has partnered with Georgetown University and Hackensack University Medical Center as sub-awardees to support the implementation and evaluation of the MOSAIC intervention. If proven effective, MOSAIC could be implemented clinically to help reduce distress and improve outcomes for SCT patients.
