The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded George Washington University (GWU) a $557,797 Project Grant under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to support research on the role of the AND-1 protein in regulating R-loops and overcoming endocrine resistance in breast cancer. The objectives are to: (1) determine a mechanism by which AND-1 promotes R-loop resolution using in vitro and in vivo assays, and (2) assess the effects of AND-1 inhibitors on aromatase inhibitor (AI) resistance in patient-derived xenograft and syngeneic breast cancer models. This work aims to elucidate a new mechanism regulating R-loops in ER-positive breast cancer and provide an innovative therapeutic strategy to treat AI-resistant breast cancer patients. The award period runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2029.
