The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) received a $793,247 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855). The award will support a 5-year research effort to develop and implement data-driven algorithms for assigning validated causes of hospitalizations among people with HIV (PWH), estimate trends in cause-specific hospitalization rates, and develop hospitalization risk scores for use in outpatient HIV care. The project aims to leverage advances in epidemiology and data science to improve the health of PWH across the lifespan by informing clinical interventions that can prevent hospitalizations and improve patient outcomes. This work will engage key stakeholders, including patients, providers, administrators, and scientists, to assess the feasibility, acceptability, and usefulness of the hospitalization risk scores as a clinical support tool.
