The University of Pittsburgh received a $1,558,726 Project Grant award from the National Institute on Aging (CFDA 93.866 Aging Research) to conduct a 5-year longitudinal study titled "MENOBRAIN: A Longitudinal Investigation of Menopause and Brain Health." The study will recruit 224 women in the perimenopause stage to comprehensively assess changes in brain structure and function, cognition, cardiovascular health, sex hormones, and menopausal symptoms using advanced neuroimaging, vascular imaging, mass spectrometry, and wearable monitoring. The primary goal is to elucidate the brain and cognitive changes that occur during the perimenopause transition and the contributing factors, with the broader aim of informing preventive efforts to forestall adverse cognitive and brain outcomes with aging, including Alzheimer's disease.
