This Project Grant award from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) provides $599,972 to the University of Michigan to develop new measures for quantifying the financial hardship and impacts experienced by families caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).
The key objectives are to conduct qualitative interviews, develop new survey instruments, and validate the new measures through large-scale field testing. This will allow characterizing the multi-faceted aspects of financial hardship, including financial stress, financial strain, asset depletion, and financial toxicity. The goal is to identify high-risk families and prioritize public health efforts to address the significant economic burdens faced by ADRD caregiving families. This 5-year project is scheduled to run from September 1, 2024 through June 30, 2029.
