The National Institute on Aging (NIA), under the Aging Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.866), awarded a $9,082,796 Project Grant (R01AG086363) to Banner Health's Banner Research Institute to conduct a two-part clinical trial examining the efficacy of antibody and gamma secretase modulator treatments in preventing Alzheimer's disease progression in a population of cognitively unimpaired and mildly impaired individuals from the world's largest autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease (ADAD) kindred in Colombia. The trial aims to evaluate the magnitude of amyloid-beta and tau biomarker reductions in this ADAD population compared to previous trials in late-onset Alzheimer's disease patients, as well as the relative efficacy of combination therapy versus monotherapy. As a sub-award, Massachusetts General Hospital's Familial Dementia Neuroimaging Laboratory will provide specialized expertise and support to ensure the success of the project in Colombia.
