This $674,227 Project Grant award, funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866), will support research at New York University (NYU) to evaluate the impact of the 340B Drug Pricing Program on Medicare Part D medication utilization, health outcomes, and disparities. The study will leverage multiple datasets to assess the effects of 340B program growth on Part D drug volumes and characteristics, as well as the program's impact on guideline-concordant medication use, adherence, and outcomes for 8 diseases, particularly among disadvantaged subpopulations. The project will also examine whether specific hospital characteristics are associated with the 340B program's effects on medication use and health outcomes in Medicare. This research aims to provide objective evidence on both intended and unintended consequences of the 340B program to inform policy decisions and advance health equity. NYU School of Medicine is collaborating with the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center on sub-awards of $1.4 million and $1.8 million, respectively, to contribute specialized expertise and data analysis for this study.
