The National Institute on Aging (NIA) awarded a $874,857 Project Grant (CFDA 93.866 - Aging Research) to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to systematically screen, prioritize, and validate drug repurposing candidates for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). The 5-year project aims to integrate genetics, transcriptomics, literature, and clinical data to develop and share tools that can efficiently identify and validate promising drug repurposing opportunities, including combination therapies, for preventing and treating AD/ADRD. The project will validate the benefits of candidate drugs and drug pairs across factors like dose, gender, and race. All findings, including deployable tools and codes, will be made broadly available on the Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Portal to enable future research in this critical area.
