The Stockbridge-Munsee Community received a $200,000 Project Grant award from the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program (CFDA 15.926) to conduct non-ground disturbing archaeological field surveys to document the boundaries, key terrain, and troop movements of the Revolutionary War Battle of Kingsbridge (also known as the Van Cortlandts Woods or the Stockbridge Massacre) that occurred on August 31, 1778. This federal grant award will allow the tribe to assume a lead role in the long-term interpretation and preservation of this historic battlefield site located in the Bronx, New York. The project will run from September 2024 to September 2026.
