The University of Cincinnati was awarded a $1,354,820 Project Grant under the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences' (NIEHS) Environmental Health (CFDA 93.113) federal grant program. The 3-year award, effective September 26, 2024, will establish the Cincinnati Climate Change and Health Research Center (C3HRC) to investigate health outcomes from climate change-driven exposures to heat, pathogens, and environmental toxicants. The center will focus on developing and testing interventions to promote resilience in vulnerable populations, including first responders and underserved communities, in the Cincinnati region and beyond. Key activities will include building sustainable research infrastructure, enabling transdisciplinary investigations, cultivating community partnerships, and providing training and capacity building. The initial project will study the impact of extreme heat on mucosal immunity.
