This $200,000 federal Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration under the Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending program (CFDA 20.534) will fund the first phase of the Merlo Bus Maintenance Facility retrofit project for the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet). The funding will support construction/site work for the bus garage, installation of 8 charging stations for articulated electric buses, operator and maintenance staff training, and contingency for labor and materials. These improvements are critical investments to enable TriMet to implement dedicated articulated zero-emission bus service on the Tualatin Valley Highway in the near-term, and scale up the garage for future charging, maintenance, and service deployment of articulated and battery-electric buses. The project will benefit TriMet riders, particularly those in the surrounding higher-income communities of color and limited English proficiency areas, by adding more transit service and capacity.
