The Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration awarded the Nebraska Department of Transportation $1,038,730 under the Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities (CFDA 20.513) federal grant program. The funding will be used to purchase 12 transit vehicles through an approved state contract to improve and expand mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Lincoln urban area as well as small urban and rural areas of Nebraska. Specifically, $220,329 will fund vehicle purchases for Lincoln, $111,605 for small urban areas, and $499,050 for rural areas. The 20% local match of $207,746 will come from locally assessed taxes, civic organizations, and fundraising across all three service areas. The award period is from April 8, 2022 to September 30, 2026.
