The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) received a $8,038,990 project grant award from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Federal Transit Formula Grants (CFDA 20.507) program. The grant will fund capital projects and planning activities to maintain MVRTA vehicles, equipment, and facilities in a state of good repair and optimize transit service for culturally diverse communities in Massachusetts. Specifically, the grant award provides $6,149,420 in carryover formula funds apportioned to the Boston urbanized area for FY2021-2022. Activities include acquiring eight replacement buses for $3,507,520, four replacement paratransit vans for $469,620, a supervisory vehicle for $40,256, miscellaneous support equipment and facility repairs for $1,360,000, and improvements to an intermodal transit center for $640,000. An additional $1,320,000 will fund short-range transit planning including GIS route mapping, operations planning, and bus stop siting. No subrecipient activities are included. The award was issued on March 3, 2023 and projects must be completed by July 15, 2025.
