The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) awarded a $172,140 project grant under CFDA 93.847 (Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program) to The General Hospital Corporation, doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The 5-year grant, which commenced on March 1, 2025, will fund research by Dr. Jesse Platt to investigate the role of insulin receptor condensates in insulin resistance and associated diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and fatty liver disease. The research aims to elucidate the molecular requirements for insulin receptor condensate formation in healthy cells and the changes that lead to dysfunctional condensates in insulin resistance. Findings from this project are expected to advance the understanding of insulin resistance pathogenesis and inform new treatment and prevention strategies for related metabolic disorders.
