The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded a $600,000 federal Project Grant under the Community Health Centers program (CFDA 93.224) to King County, doing business as Public Health-Seattle & King County. The grant, titled "FY 2024 Behavioral Health Service Expansion - King County, WA," will expand access to mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, including medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Seattle and greater King County area. The funding will support 2 FTE SUD harm reduction specialists and 1 FTE behavioral health specialist to conduct street outreach, as well as start contingency management services within the outpatient opioid treatment network program. The project is expected to yield 200 additional clients receiving mental health services, 500 additional clients receiving SUD services, and 120 additional clients receiving MOUD. King County will partner with the Downtown Emergency Service Center and Evergreen Treatment Services as sub-grantees to implement components of the project.
