This federal Project Grant award of $500,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Community Health Centers program (CFDA 93.224) supports Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV), a federally qualified health center, in expanding operating hours at two of its clinic locations in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The funding will allow KKV to extend hours at its Na Koa clinic, which is evolving into an urgent care facility, from 8am-4pm to 8am-9pm Monday through Saturday. Additionally, the public housing clinic at Kuhio Park Terrace will shift its opening hours from 8am to 7am, two mornings a week, to better serve working families. In total, these expanded hours will increase KKV's service by 27 hours per week, enabling the organization to provide primary care, behavioral health, and enabling services to an estimated 718 patients in Year 1 and 945 patients in Year 2, with a focus on reducing high emergency room utilization among its largely low-income, immigrant, and non-English speaking patient population.
