This federal Project Grant award, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) under the Community Health Centers (CFDA 93.224) program, will fund the Community Health Association of Spokane (CHAS) to expand operating hours and increase access to dental services at its East Mission Dental Clinic in Spokane Valley, Washington.

Specifically, the $500,000 per year grant over two years will allow CHAS to increase the clinic's hours from 10.5 hours per weekday and 9 hours on Saturdays to 12.5 hours per day Monday through Saturday, and add Sunday operating hours from 7:30am to 5:00pm. This will result in a total increase of 23 additional hours per week, for a new total of 84.5 hours of operation. The expanded hours will enable CHAS to offer more appointment slots and reduce patient wait times, particularly for the clinic's underserved patient population of which over two-thirds rely on Medicaid and 18% are uninsured. CHAS will maintain its existing dental services, including exams, cleanings, x-rays, root canals, crowns, fillings, and extractions.
