The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded a $100,000 Project Grant under the Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs (CFDA 45.164) to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute (the Clark) to present the exhibition "Guillaume Lethiere and His Worlds" and related public programming from June 15 to October 14, 2024. The exhibition will introduce visitors to the life and achievements of the French Neoclassical and Romantic artist Guillaume Lethière, who was born in the French colony of Guadeloupe, and investigate questions regarding the reception and assessment of Caribbean and other BIPOC artists. In addition to the exhibition, the grant will support a range of family, public, and scholarly programs exploring these themes.

The Clark Art Institute has received several previous federal grants from the NEH to support its humanities programming, exhibitions, and staff positions, including a $500,000 grant in 2022 to sustain seven staff roles critical to its core public, academic, and library humanities initiatives, as well as a $166,578 grant in 2020 to support its "Clark Connects" public and academic programs. The Institute has also received sub-awards from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to support its broader arts programs and activities.
