The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) was awarded a $188,431,911 project grant from the Federal Transit Administration's Federal Transit Formula Grants program (CFDA 20.507) to support capital and preventive maintenance activities for MARTA's bus and rail systems from August 31, 2022 through March 30, 2030. The grant funds will be used to support preventive maintenance of MARTA's bus and rail fleets, rehabilitation of rail stations and transitways, security and crime prevention initiatives, and planning and implementation of the I-285 Top End Light Rail Transit project through a $6.6M subaward to the Peachtree Gateway Partnership. The funding will improve MARTA service delivery, enhance the customer experience, and ensure transit assets remain in a state of good repair for the benefit of riders in Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton Counties and the City of Atlanta. MARTA will provide $28.8M in local matching funds, for a total project cost of $143.9M.
