Trinity University received a $692,239 project grant award from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration under the BUILD TO SCALE federal grant program. The grant will support Trinity University's Student Managed Early Stage Venture Fund (SMEVF), which will focus on providing seed-stage investments in high-growth startups located in the San Antonio and Austin regions of Texas. The SMEVF will invest in more than 50 regional companies and help create over 125 new jobs by 2027. It will also direct a minimum of 30% of its investments to ventures led by women and founders from underrepresented backgrounds including Black, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and low-income individuals. The goal of this EDA grant is to strengthen the regional technology-based economy through 2024 by sustaining the SMEVF's operations and continued reinvestment in early-stage companies.
