The City of Evanston has received a $10,471,400 project grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Information Dissemination, Outreach, Training and Technical Analysis/Assistance program (CFDA 81.117). The grant will fund the "Healthy Buildings Ordinance for Equitable Building Performance Standards (HBO)" initiative, which aims to establish and implement building performance standards to reduce energy consumption, eliminate onsite and district thermal greenhouse gas emissions, and ensure renewable electricity procurement for the city's largest buildings by 2050. The project will promote community and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on disadvantaged and underserved populations, and build workforce capacity through training and technical assistance to support compliance and implementation. Key goals include auditing and providing compliance pathways for at least 100 equity priority buildings, training at least 45 new clean energy workforce members, and hiring 3 new city staff to support the program.
