The Shelburne Museum, Inc. was awarded a $283,687 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Promotion of the Humanities Challenge Grants program, effective January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027. This grant will support the creation of the Perry Center for Native American Art at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont. The Perry Center will be a 9,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility designed to provide culturally appropriate interpretation and care for the museum's indigenous material culture collections. The center will include galleries, ritual spaces, demonstration facilities, and specialized storage to serve the needs of the communities from which the collections originated. Designed in partnership with indigenous voices, the Perry Center will transform the museum's humanities infrastructure and visitor experience by reimagining how indigenous art and material culture are exhibited and preserved.
