GOALS: THE THREE GOALS FOR THE WINTERSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PROJECT ARE: 1. CONSTRUCT A GRAIN BIN WITH ALL ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT INCLUDING AN 18-FOOT DIAMETER BIN, AN AUGER SYSTEM TO MOVE THE GRAIN, AND A PLATFORM AREA FOR STUDENTS TO OBSERVE FROM. 2. PURCHASE THE ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT TO BE USED DURING THE TRAINING EVOLUTIONS INCLUDING ROPE RESCUE EQUIPMENT AND A COFFERDAM. 3. DEVELOP A TRAINING PROGRAM INCLUDING CLASSROOM AND HANDS ON SESSIONS TO BE PRESENTED TO STUDENTS TO INSTRUCT THEM IN THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES TO BE USED IN A GRAIN BIN RESCUE. WE WILL CONSTRUCT AN 18-FOOT DIAMETER GRAIN BIN THAT WILL HAVE A SECOND SMALLER BIN INSIDE. THIS INSIDE BIN WILL BE FILLED WITH PLASTIC PELLETS THAT WILL SIMULATE CORN AND WILL BE MOVED BY AN AUGER FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE BIN TO THE TOP. FIREFIGHTERS WILL BE TRAINED TO ACCESS THE GRAIN BIN FROM THE TOP TO SEC URE THE VICTIM IN A HARNESS, CONSTRUCT A COFFERDAM AROUND THE VICTIM, AND THEN REMOVE THE GRAIN FROM INSIDE THE COFFERDAM TO FREE THE VICTIM FROM THE CORN. IN ADDITION TO THE ACTUAL GRAIN BIN STRUCTURE, WE WILL PURCHASE THE OTHER NEEDED EQUIPMENT FOR THE TRAINING INCLUDING ROPE RESCUE EQUIPMENT AND A COFFERDAM.
