The Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration awarded the Arizona Department of Transportation a $2,982,156 project grant under the Formula Grants for Rural Areas and Tribal Transit Program (CFDA 20.509) on July 23, 2021. The grant will support rural and tribal public transportation services in Arizona through September 30, 2025. Funds will be used to sustain transit operations and preventive maintenance activities during the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis. Sub-awards will support emergency relief operating expenses for 12 rural and tribal transit agencies across Arizona, including the Cities of Benson, Bullhead, Cottonwood, Coolidge, Douglas, Kingman, Maricopa, and Show Low as well as the Regional Transportation Authority of Pima County, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Hopi Tribe, Greyhound Lines Inc., and Yuma County Area Transit. The grant aims to maintain safe transit operations and provide trips for employment, healthcare, and other essential needs for local residents, businesses and providers in rural Arizona communities.
