The Squaxin Island Tribe received a $150,000 Project Grant award from the Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs Central Office. The grant was awarded under the Tribal Climate Resilience program (CFDA 15.156) on August 16, 2021 for a period ending August 15, 2023. Under this award, the Squaxin Island Tribe will conduct research to better understand potential climate change impacts and vulnerabilities faced by their community, ecosystems, and infrastructure located near where fresh water meets salt water. Specifically, the Tribe will analyze future conditions for salmon and tribal members in this area given climate risks. The grant funds and technical support will enable the Tribe to develop adaptation strategies to increase resilience.
