The Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $229,072 Project Grant to Manzanita Band of Mission Indians under the Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act program (CFDA 66.034). The grant will support the Manzanita Enhanced Air Quality Monitoring Project from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2026. Under this project, Manzanita Band of Mission Indians will establish an air monitoring network on the Manzanita Reservation to detect concentrations of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. The network will deploy monitors containing sensors to measure these pollutants as well as other ambient environmental data. In addition, the Tribe will conduct community training, data analysis, and public outreach activities around air quality issues.
