This $499,735 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program (CFDA 66.306) will fund the Anza-Borrego Foundation's "Club de Exploradores de Borrego Springs" program. The program will create a multi-year outdoor education initiative for middle school students and their families in Borrego Springs, California. Key activities include 10 annual educational outings covering topics like archaeology, paleontology, and astronomy, as well as "Explorers Club Nights" to build community engagement. The award will support 3 program coordinators to lead these activities. The Anza-Borrego Foundation will also subaward $10,000 to Organización Latinx (OLAX) to provide student scholarships and translation services. The overall goal is to increase participants' knowledge of local park resources, outdoor skills, and community involvement in environmental issues and policy.
