The Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 awarded the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy a $156,930 Project Grant under the Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act federal grant program. The purpose of this American Rescue Plan-funded cooperative agreement is to replace existing filter-based air quality monitors or otherwise enhance existing monitors in and near communities to provide 24/7, real-time reporting of air quality concentrations. Specifically, the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy will fully automate PM2.5 monitors and upgrade other National Ambient Air Quality Standards pollutant monitoring sites and gas monitors that are not meeting performance or completeness goals. This is intended to benefit community residents through decreased health risks from improved air quality monitoring. No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
