DESCRIPTION:THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT WILL PROVIDE FUNDING TO THE RECIPIENT TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE (E.G., INFORMATION, TRAINING, TOOLS) TO BUSINESSES TO HELP THEM DEVELOP AND ADOPT SOURCE REDUCTION PRACTICES (ALSO KNOWN AS POLLUTION PREVENTION (P2)). P2 MEANS REDUCING OR ELIMINATING POLLUTANTS FROM ENTERING ANY WASTE STREAM OR OTHERWISE BEING RELEASED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT PRIOR TO RECYCLING, TREATMENT, OR DISPOSAL. SPECIFICALLY, THE PROJECT WORK WILL PROPOSE TO PROVIDE ON-SITE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE VIA ENERGY AND WASTE ASSESSMENTS FOR AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING AND MAINTENANCE FACILITIES. THESE WILL INCLUDE ONE- TO TWO-DAY SITE ASSESSMENTS WITH DOCUMENTED FINDINGS, RECOMMENDATIONS, AND COST-EFFECTIVENESS INFORMATION PROVIDED TO FACILITY MANAGERS AND OPERATORS. THIS ACTION PARTIALLY FUNDS THE GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $36,482. FEDERAL FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $44,518 ARE CONTINGENT UPON AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING.ACTIVITIES:THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE PERFORMING SEVEN (7) ENERGY AUDITS RESULTING IN ENERGY USE REDUCTION AND ASSOCIATED REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS. THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE'S INDUSTRIAL ASSESSMENT CENTER (THE CENTER) WILL DESCRIBE AND QUANTIFY A SET OF ENERGY, WATER, AND WASTE REDUCTION RECOMMENDATIONS WHERE POSSIBLE AND DELIVER THEM IN A COMPREHENSIVE REPORT WHILE FOLLOWING UP WITH CLIENT EDUCATION. THESE EFFORTS WILL DETERMINE WHICH MEASURES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED AND REPORTED AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS TO BE MADE ON ACTUAL COST SAVINGS ALONG WITH ENERGY AND EMISSIONS REDUCTIONS. THE P2 EJ MAPPING TOOL WILL BE USED TO TARGET AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS AND MAINTENANCE FACILITIES THAT COULD BE CONTRIBUTING TO POLLUTION LEVELS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CONDUCTED BY THE GRANTEE WILL BENEFIT FACILITIES AND, IF APPLICABLE, MAY ADDRESS UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THE RECIPIENT IS EXPECTED TO REPORT ON P2 PERFORMANCE MEASURES (OUTPUTS AND OUTCOMES) AND NOTE WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AS WELL AS COMMIT TO FOLLOWING-UP WITH FACILITIES TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WAS ADOPTED AND IMPLEMENTED. THE ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE WEBINAR THAT WILL BE PRESENTED AND THE CENTER WILL REPORT ON THE TOPIC COVERED, THE NUMBER OF FACILITIES ATTENDING, AND THE PERCENTAGE OF PARTICIPANTS REPORTING INCREASED UNDERSTANDING OF TOPICS COVERED, WHICH WILL BE DETERMINED BY A POST-WEBINAR SURVEY. THREE (3) CASE STUDIES AND ONE (1) SUCCESS STORY WILL BE DEVELOPED. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE ENGAGING HIGHLY TRAINED STUDENTS TO ASSESS ENERGY AND WATER CONSUMPTION AND POLLUTION PRODUCTION IN THE FACILITY, PERFORM AN ACCURATE QUANTIFICATION OF ENERGY, WATER, AND POLLUTION STREAMS, IDENTIFY POSSIBLE REDUCTION MEASURES, AND QUANTIFY THE POTENTIAL REDUCTIONS OF ENERGY, WATER, AND POLLUTANTS. STUDENTS ARE TRAINED AND LED IN THE ENERGY AUDIT PROCESS BY THE CENTER'S DIRECTOR (A COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING FACULTY) OR WHERE APPROPRIATE, BY OTHER CENTER-AFFILIATED FACULTY. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE PARTICIPATING PLANTS WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM COST REDUCTIONS, ALL MEMBERS OF SOCIETY WHO WILL EXPERIENCE REDUCTIONS IN POLLUTION, AS WELL AS STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE TRAINING IN THE PROGRAM.
