This $150,000 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program will fund Resilient Virginia to build leadership capacity in communities disproportionately burdened by environmental harms and risks in Ward 2 of Lynchburg, Virginia. The project aims to address the increased effects of climate change, including flooding, extreme heat, and other adverse impacts to health, safety, and economic well-being. Key project elements include verifying a work plan with partners, data collection and mapping, community engagement to establish a vision and goals for climate equity, and capacity-building workshops to provide residents with skills, information, and resources to address climate-related risks. The anticipated outputs include updated climate risk and demographic data, engaged Ward 2 residents, capacity-building workshops, and meetings with partners and community leaders. The outcomes are expected to enable community members to assist with addressing climate-related risks and participate in regional flood resiliency planning efforts.
