Key activities include deploying 21 air quality monitoring sensors,...
- This $778,982 Project Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program (CFDA 66.509) supports a research project led by Temple University. The project aims to examine the cumulative exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors in Hispanic environmental justice neighborhoods, implement and evaluate an intervention program to improve indoor home environmental quality, and develop a sustainable action plan to reduce exposure for...
- This $798,928 Project Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development supports the development and improvement of an online detection and quantification method for understudied toxic plastic additives in atmospheric particulate matter. Funded under the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program (CFDA #66.509), the University of California, San Diego will calibrate an extractive electrospray high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer to...
- The Research Foundation for the State University of New York (RF SUNY) received a $499,032 Project Grant award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act (CFDA 66.034) program. The grant will fund a network of low-cost air quality sensors to monitor indoor and outdoor pollutants such as CO, NO, NO2, O3, PM, and VOCs in communities around Albany, NY with...
- The Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 awarded a $590,000 Project Grant to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation under the Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act program (CFDA 66.034). The grant funds will be used to enhance particulate matter 2.5 and other National Ambient Air Quality Standards pollutant monitoring in communities facing disproportionate exposure and health risks....
- This $1,558,555 Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program grant, awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (CFDA 66.509), will support a project to assess PFAS and heavy metal contamination in water sources and food supplies within the Peskotomuhkati (Passamaquoddy) tribal homelands in Maine. The project aims to quantify PFAS and heavy metal levels, evaluate their distribution in aquatic environments, and communicate findings to the tribal community. Key project activities...
- This $500,000 project grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program (CFDA 66.509) aims to create comprehensive cumulative impact indices that encompass the effects of chemical and non-chemical stressors at the community level in California. The key objectives are to: (1) investigate cumulative impacts on respiratory, cardiovascular, and lung cancer outcomes in underserved communities; (2) engage community members to...
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $124,677 Project Grant to the Penobscot Indian Nation under the "Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act" (CFDA 66.034) program. The grant funding will be used by the tribe to expand and enhance their air monitoring activities, with a focus on sampling and collecting data for 67 hazardous air toxics on the Penobscot Indian Nation reservation. Key...
- This Project Grant award, provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Pollution Prevention Grants Program (CFDA 66.708), will fund the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to deliver technical assistance to businesses in the chemical manufacturing sector in New York. The $253,955 award, with a performance period from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2028, will enable NYSDEC to partner with the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute to...
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded New York University $400,000 under the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Research Program for a three-year project grant concluding in August 2025. The goal of the research is to develop and validate novel passive sampling designs that can measure a diverse suite of air toxics and contaminants of emerging concern in ambient urban air at low detection limits. Activities include refining polyethylene films for passive air sampling of hazardous air pollutants and contaminants of emerging concern, developing a new passive sampler that preferentially accumulates air toxics in water, and demonstrating the capability to locate emissions sources and assess chronic exposures in a local community. Analyses of fluorotelomers, organophosphate esters, and other compounds will be conducted by subawardee Stony Brook University. The anticipated deliverables are annual progress and final reports. The project aims to validate a low-cost method enabling local governments and communities to assess chronic exposures to air toxics and contaminants of emerging concern.
