The Seacoast Science Center, Inc., a non-profit marine science education organization, received a $4,950,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology under the Congressionally-Identified Projects program (CFDA 11.617). The grant will fund the renovation of an existing 2,000 square foot meeting space and the construction of a new 21,650 square foot, two-story facility. The new and renovated spaces will house various programmatic elements, including marine mammal response and rehabilitation, a nature-based early learner center, teaching labs, a contemporary museum and community space, cultural history and human use exhibits, and sustainable operations and resilient site features. The project is intended to provide the State of New Hampshire and its regional coastal partners in southern Maine and northern Massachusetts with an updated environmental science institution capable of engaging up to 150,000 visitors annually with programs and exhibits focused on natural history, environmental challenges, human uses, and conservation measures.
