The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $284,596 Project Grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) federal grant program to Mississippi State University (MSU). The grant will support the establishment of a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site focused on cybersecurity in emerging technologies.
Through this 3-year program, MSU will host 10 undergraduate students each summer for a 10-week research initiative. Students will work on cutting-edge cybersecurity projects addressing real-world challenges in areas such as wireless network security, privacy-preserving spectrum sharing, AI robotic systems security, explainable malware detection, and advanced network defense mechanisms. The program aims to recruit and mentor students from underrepresented groups, including those from community colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs). Students will gain hands-on research experience, technical skills, and critical thinking abilities to prepare them for impactful careers in cybersecurity and STEM fields.
