The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $364,562 Project Grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program to Brown University for the "REU SITE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR COMPUTATIONAL CREATIVITY" project. This 3-year grant, effective June 15, 2025, will enable undergraduate students to participate in interdisciplinary research on artificial intelligence (AI) for computational creativity. The project aims to build critical computer science research capacity, communication and professional skills, and increase student understanding of graduate degree pathways. Research areas include machine learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, graphics, and human-computer interaction, with a focus on creative generative models, content evaluation, and user experience design for creative AI. Students will receive mentoring, technical training in AI and machine learning, and opportunities to present their work at research symposia and workshops. This project will help develop a multi-year pipeline of diverse student researchers and broaden participation in the fields of AI and visual computing.
