The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for $187,021 on August 15, 2024. The funding supports a highly targeted, urgent, and short-term continuation of an existing program that studies the early universe by deploying instrumentation to remote, radio-quiet locations. Specifically, the project aims to make sensitive observations with unprecedented absolute calibration by repeating measurements from the Australian site in the Northern Hemisphere location of Adak Island. This work is necessary to characterize, identify, and mitigate spurious emission from satellites in low Earth orbit that is compromising the measurements. The funding will enable deploying the necessary equipment and conducting the critical observations during the 2024/25 winter season before the interference becomes too strong to make the required measurements.
