The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $199,991 Project Grant under the Geosciences Program (CFDA 47.050) to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) to develop a plan for accelerating the development of high-quality, accessible data sonifications in the geosciences. The two-year planning project, titled "Sonification Network for the Geosciences (GEO SONnet)," aims to 1) establish interdisciplinary networks of sonification researchers, domain experts, and accessibility professionals, 2) create reference resources and knowledge-sharing platforms, and 3) expand knowledge of data sonification techniques among geoscience researchers. A sub-award of undisclosed amount was made to Geneva Lake Astrophysics and STEAM, Inc. (Glas Education) to leverage its expertise in sonification education and work with disability communities to support the project's objectives.
