This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Geosciences Program (CFDA 47.050) will provide $165,476 to the University of Alabama to deploy and operate the Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation (HAMSCI) Personal Space Weather Station Network. The HAMSCI network consists of over 35 stations primarily located in the continental U.S., Canada, Alaska, and Europe that observe various aspects of the geospace environment, including the ionosphere, to study impacts from solar flares, eclipses, geomagnetic storms, and other space weather phenomena. Under this award, the project will deploy 30 additional standardized stations capable of detecting high-frequency Doppler shifts, amateur radio transmissions, very low-frequency emissions, and geomagnetic field data. The project will also install 10 GPS-disciplined amateur radio transmitters to serve as a new source of calibrated HF beacon signals. This enhanced network will enable researchers to investigate both localized and continental-scale space weather effects. The award period runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.
