The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $276,085 Project Grant to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Inc. under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to establish a distributed network of meteor radars and optical instruments in the mid-latitudes of South America. This network will provide continuous measurements of upper atmospheric winds and nighttime wave perturbations in the mesosphere and thermosphere, enabling multi-point observations to resolve the detailed four-dimensional structures of small-scale waves. The project will leverage and expand upon NSF's prior investments in meteor radar and all-sky imaging infrastructure in the region. It will also provide research and training opportunities for a postdoctoral researcher and PhD students, while promoting international collaboration between scientists in the U.S., Germany, Chile, and Argentina. The project period runs from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028.
