The National Science Foundation (NSF) Partnerships for Innovation - Technology Translation (PFI-TT) program awarded a $550,000 project grant to Trustees of Dartmouth College to develop a novel high-voltage drive electronics system for multi-scale human tactile interface (haptic) technologies. The project aims to design and fabricate a custom integrated circuit and assembled platform that uses high energy density switched capacitor-based amplifiers to efficiently generate up to 400 volts from low-voltage supplies. This enables significant size and cost reductions compared to traditional boost converters, addressing key technical barriers limiting the adoption and commercialization of haptic systems. The research activities include circuit design, fabrication, industry engagement, student training, and broader dissemination of the technical findings. The project period runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.
