This $120,590 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) supports a collaborative research effort across five Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to develop and pilot innovative tools and approaches for enhancing the research capacity of HBCUs.
The key goals of this project are to: 1) Create a "playbook" to help HBCU leaders assess their research strengths and weaknesses and integrate research capacity building into strategic planning, and 2) Engage HBCU faculty in a framework to assess their skills and create action plans for supporting their research career development. The project team will conduct a literature review on best practices for a thriving research enterprise and develop assessment rubrics for institutions and faculty. This effort aims to promote a more equitable distribution of resources and opportunities in the scientific community, increase diversity in the STEM workforce, and address health and societal disparities.
