The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) was awarded a $1,599,898 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) to provide leadership and serve the national interest by advancing research, practice, and policy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. This 5-year project aims to: 1) improve the knowledge base for science education by charting research frontiers, 2) identify critical issues in STEM education policy and practice and provide evidence-based strategies, 3) narrow the gap between research and practice by translating findings into guidelines for educators, and 4) develop an interdisciplinary community of STEM education scholars. Through consensus studies, workshops, and stakeholder engagement, the NAS Board on Science Education will leverage NSF's investments in STEM education research to communicate relevant insights to a broad audience and improve the agenda for future research and practice.
