This $139,995 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Geosciences Program (CFDA 47.050) supports Wayne State University's participation in the 2024 Salt Lake City Summer Ozone Study (SLC-SOS) field campaign. The objectives are to: (1) measure high time resolution formaldehyde (HCHO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations at a stationary ground site, along with ozone (O3) and other precursors; and (2) use the SLC-SOS data and model simulations to identify the summertime O3 formation regime over the Northern Wasatch Front region in Utah. This research will help determine the conditions under which O3 formation is limited by volatile organic compounds or nitrogen oxides, which is crucial for designing effective strategies to mitigate O3 pollution in the region. The award supports the participation of two graduate students and includes plans for subawards.
