This National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CFDA 47.076) grant of $1,997,177 awarded to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) will fund a six-year project to increase the retention, graduation, and post-baccalaureate success of low-income, academically talented transfer students pursuing bachelor's degrees in computer science. The project will provide two-year scholarships to 54 unique full-time students, as well as comprehensive academic and social integration support through a new scholars retreat, faculty/peer/industry mentoring, and professional development activities. Additionally, the project aims to strengthen partnerships with community college collaborators to better address pre- and post-transfer needs for computing students across the two- to four-year pathway. A comprehensive external evaluation will assess the impact of these interventions on transfer student success, generating valuable knowledge to the STEM education community.
