This $1,999,581 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) will support the University of Memphis in providing scholarships, mentorship, and academic support to at least 60 high-achieving, low-income undergraduates pursuing bachelor's degrees in engineering. Over the four-year performance period from February 1, 2025 to January 31, 2029, the project aims to increase STEM degree completion by cultivating STEM identity and improving retention and graduation among this target student population. In addition to financial assistance, the program will provide academic and psychosocial support, including opportunities for the undergraduate scholars to serve as STEM Ambassadors, mentoring K-12 students and enhancing their own leadership, communication, and disciplinary skills. The project will also contribute to the understanding of effective practices for supporting engineering students' self-efficacy, career attitudes, and academic success.
