This $1,993,085.00 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) will provide scholarships and supporting activities to increase retention and graduation rates of 20 high-achieving, low-income undergraduate students pursuing STEM degrees at St. John Fisher College over a 5-year period. The project aims to strengthen participants' self-belief, sense of belonging, and career readiness through mentoring, paid research experiences, tutoring, mindfulness training, and graduate school preparation. It seeks to contribute to the national need for STEM professionals by helping to broaden participation in these fields and generate knowledge about the influence of psychosocial factors on student persistence. The project will be evaluated through a mixed-methods approach, and findings will be disseminated through presentations, publications, and stakeholder reports.
