This $200,000 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program aims to establish an introductory Computational Materials Science (CPMS) course and develop educational modules at West Texas A&M University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). The project seeks to enhance undergraduate STEM education and broaden participation by providing students with hands-on experiences in state-of-the-art CPMS techniques, including open-source and industry-standard simulation and visualization tools. Over 200 students annually will be engaged through the course and integrated modules. The project will also leverage peer mentoring, guest lectures, and other evidence-based practices to prepare students for STEM internships and careers in industry or academia. The course materials, modules, and program evaluation outcomes will be shared with the wider STEM education and HSI communities.
