The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $277,536 Project Grant under the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (CFDA 47.075) program to The University of Tampa Inc. The grant, titled "RUI: EXECUTIVE CONTROL OF WORKING MEMORY: PRIORITIZATION BASED ON VALUE," will fund research to understand how people strategically prioritize information within working memory based on its perceived importance or value.
The project will systematically evaluate the executive control processes involved in the prioritization of information in working memory, with implications for future applied research in areas like psychological disorder treatment and classroom learning strategies. The research will be conducted in collaboration with the Glazer Children's Museum to create an interactive exhibit that educates thousands of children and caregivers about memory and executive control. Undergraduate students at The University of Tampa will assist with the experimental research, which is expected to run from September 2024 through August 2027.
